One of the World’s most precious gems is the Diamond. It is also the hardest among all the other minerals found in the world. The usage and origin of diamond jewelry started in the 19th century because of its shine, attraction and was also available in abundance. The diamonds were cut, polished and fitted to the gold and silver ornaments.
Quality
Today, the demand for the diamonds is more but the supply is less. In the late 20’s, the theory of gemology was introduced by which diamonds were graded bases on its lustre, quality and other characteristics. Now, most diamonds are selected based on its color, carats, cut and the clarity.
Diamond Jewelry

Diamonds are nothing but transparent crystals found mostly in high pressure areas or underground like the craters or mines. They are generally scratch proof (except by other diamonds). Diamonds are often used by the glass industry to cut the glass. The diamond powder is used as abrasive in the industries. Diamonds are used for polishing other diamonds and any other material that requires polishing.
Possible Future Uses
In the areas electricity and electronics, diamonds may soon have a chance to play a major role. Diamonds are excellent insulators though blue diamonds can be used as semiconductors (due to having boron). There is hope that lab grown diamonds may be the next semiconductor to be used in computers – but research is still being made.
Colors

The Color formation in the diamonds is mostly due to the presence of Nitrogen. One may come across several colors like white, yellow, blue, violet, purple, pink and the most preferred color that is red. All those colored diamonds get the color because of various types of impurities present in it. All these also come under the scanner and are graded accordingly. Natural red diamonds are so rare that most jewelers have never seen one.
