Making jewelry can be very easy. Sometimes we forget just how easy making them is! Here’s our newest video on how to make memory wire bracelets. It shows you step by step what is involved to making a great gift.

We intentionally kept in some of the gotchas that may happen so you will know it isn’t just you. These include having your memory wire get tangled with itself. Also it goes into details on how to close memory wire as that is the tricky piece.

Gold: Types Of Gold

Common values for amounts of gold in gold jewelry are:

  • Karat – Percent Gold
  • 10 Kt – 41.6%
  • 14 Kt – 58.5%
  • 18 Kt – 75%
  • 24 Kt – 100%

Common Gold Alloys:

  • Yellow Gold – natural color of gold
  • White Gold – often alloyed with nickel
  • Rose Gold – alloyed with copper
  • Green Gold – alloyed with silver

If you have silver jewelry that has tarnished that doesn’t have gemstones or other items that could be damaged by water (ie: feathers, finishes harmed by water, etc.) this method can be much easier than using a Sunshine cloth. It is especially helpful for cleaning silver chains.

NOTE: many gemstones have a polish that can be removed (lapis, malachite, jasper, agate, etc.). Please do NOT use this method for jewelry like this! See cleaning silver jewelry for alternative methods.

Things you need:
* An Aluminum pan (or a pyrex dish lined with aluminum foil)
* Baking Soda
* Boiling Water

Place jewelry and baking soda in aluminum pan. Carefully add boiling water (try not to breath any fumes). Wait up to 3 minutes. Remove if untarnished. Rinse jewelry. Repeat if needed.

You can wait longer than the video shows and usually you don’t need to cover jewelry with baking soda. However, it is great to see the process of how to clean silver jewelry.
