Earring Styles and Trends

Ancient civilizations have been using earrings since early history. From then until now, this process of ear piercing and adorning it with rings or studs has been popular among different peoples. However, in the modern days, options have widened as to how the earrings would be worn, where it could be placed, and the design of the earring itself.

Earring styles and trends have indeed expanded catering to the preference of most people. Now, aside from the usual and typical ear pieces, there are also modern ear jewelries and the earrings that could be worn without piercing. Examples of such would be described below.

Favorite Earring Styles

Traditional earring styles and trends are the following:

• Stud

It consists of the focus (could be plain metal, stones, pearls, plastic, and beads among others) which is attached to a thin post that would be inserted to the piercing. This would then be screwed at the back side of the ear.

• Hoop

This is a round solid earring, commonly made out of metal, but could also be of other materials such as plastic. It is not made throughout as there is a thinner post attached to one open side, which is then inserted into the piercing and fastened at the back.

• Dangle

Dangling earrings work the same way as with the stud. However, they extend way beyond the lobe with strings of pearls, beads, or stones, or an intricately designed metal. There is also another variation which makes dangles a lot easier to wear, which is the use of a hook that would just be clasped onto the piercing.

• Thread

It is a thin chain that could be inserted through the piercing and left hanging on both sides.

Body Jewelry for the Ears

Modern body piercing jewelries that are used as earrings are the following:

• Barbells

It is a long, thin, straight metal with a stud at the end and clasped in the end by a screw. This is not commonly used in the lobe, but on the upper part of the ear.

• Plugs

This is a solid cylindrical earring which has a flared end to keep it from falling out.

• Flesh Tunnels

Similar to the plug, it is also cylindrical but the difference is that this is hollow.

Pierce-less Earrings

Earrings that could be worn minus the piercing are as follows:

• Clip-ons

As implied by the name, it is held on to the earlobe via a clip with the use of mechanical pressure.

• Ear cuffs

Just like a cuff bracelet or a cufflink, it stays onto the lobe by pinching it.

• Magnetic

The front side has a stud-like piece and is attached to the earlobe at the back with a magnetic piece.
