Where
Unlike sapphire and ruby that are originally mined in Sri Lanka, the emerald stones were originally excavated in Egypt, Austria and in Pakistan. Nowadays the finest and the most valuable types of emeralds are majorly mined in Columbia.
“Trapiche” is the name of the rarest and most unique type of emerald. Trapiche is considered as such because of the distinctive ‘star’ pattern of the emerald. The pointed patterns of the trapiche are actually dark carbon impurities and crust. Trapiche and other scarce and exceptional emeralds can be mined at some of the excavating areas in Muzo, Chivor and Coscuez in Colombia.
Apart from these places, jewelry miners can find other types of emeralds at different countries such as Madagascar, India, Brazil and Zimbabwe.
