Moissanite or Diamond

Weddings are not complete without the ring. If you are lucky enough to have a man who’s well off then you can easily hope that your fiancé will have a diamond ring hidden in a handful of petal roses while pronouncing the much anticipated: “will you marry me?”

But in case you are just another Jasmine who is willing to give up all the richness in this world just to marry her true love Aladdin who happens to belong in a not-so-affluent family then be prepared to give up your childhood fantasy of having to wear your shiny big diamond ring.

Don’t fret because you can always choose Moissanite as an alternative for diamond.

Moissanite is a diamond-like substance which is created from Silicon Carbide that is very much familiar among people. Sandpaper is a silicon carbide—which is an extremely durable material. Through the help of science, they were able to create a clear crystal using silicon carbide which is now known as the Moissanite that was named after its discoverer. The only problem with this kind of stone is the fact that it may sometimes contain a greenish tint hence it is always sensible to look for various rings and compare which one is the whitest in order to find the most diamond-like among the rest.

So you are going to ask now whether moissanite or diamond?

There is really no point comparing the two since it’s just like comparing two different objects like an apple or an orange. The two are valuable but nonetheless, they are not the same. And even the moissanite and diamond may be hard to differentiate by laypersons; the two can be distinguished apart even on the absence of patent tester.

By merely viewing the two at a certain distance to the naked eye through the help of the proper illumination coming from a penlight, moissanite is seen through its double refraction of light. The observer will be able to see a rainbow pattern which is not present on authentic diamonds. Another aspect that differentiates the two is the presence of miniscule pipe-like inclusions which is only seen through right magnification. This examination will reveal whether or not the stone is a moissanite or diamond. Lastly, the most significant difference between the two is their industrial applications. Diamonds contains the legendary value of ‘anvil materials’ that the moissanite actually does not have.

Actually, the choice between the two is pointless if you’re soon-to-be groom does not have enough money to spare. Of course, diamond is still the better choice since it is pure and authentic unlike moissanite which was only created in order to satisfy the craving of those people who can’t afford diamonds.

Don’t fret if the man of your life merely offers a moissanite ring, the cost does not count rather it is the love which is important. Just be happy that even though you may not have a real diamond for your wedding, at least you’re still given the chance to walk down the aisle.
