Spot a Fake Rolex

Perhaps, you are aware of the saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But when it comes to manufacturing false Rolex watch, the imitators are more likely veered on greed rather than flattery. Many times, fake Rolex copies are very amateurish and it would not even require jeweler’s proficient ability in order to spot a false one. These fake kinds are imprinted with stupidly spelled words, sharp edges, extra point within the logo’s crown, and other obvious flaws seen on the bracelet and bezels. The weight is as well unusually light for a 14K or 18K gold watch.

But keep in mind that there are $100 fake watches that are sold by friendly and gracious fellows and there are $1000 fakes that are also being sold by friendly and gracious individuals. Hence, it may be sometimes hard to discern a false one from the real Rolex watch. Price is NOT a determining factor (though sometimes an extremely low price may be a hint). These years, counterfeiters come in wide form of looks and sizes in order to better conceal their forgeries. And the only thing to do in order to effectively spot a fake Rolex watch is to ask a jeweler to remove the caseback in order to thoroughly examining the inner working of the watch.

Here are some of other reasonable things you wish to do in order to spot a fake Rolex, but keep in mind that this are not foolproof methods:

1. In many cases, the lettering on replicas contained misspelled words and/or is not spaced with the same precision that is found on authentic watches. Blurry letters also indicate forged watches. But be wary on high-end fake Rolexes since they are faithfully created that it may be hard to detect the wrongly imprinted letters even through the use of a magnifying glass.

2. The case reference number must as well be considered in order to spot a fake Rolex. Authentic ones are engraved equitably and they are mounted in the middle of the lugs which is the metal prong that holds the bracelet on their proper place. Also, the engravings found on authentic versions are known to reflect light and they contain spacing that is extremely precise in nature.

3. In the year 2002, Rolex started to etch their logo beneath the ‘6’; such micro-etched coronet is extremely hard to see by the naked eyes hence it is always safe to examine the watch with the use of a loupe in order to verify authenticity better. Scammers may also try to add this feature although it is not properly mounted.

4. The movement of the second hand should also be examined in order to spot a fake Rolex. Authentic kinds are made up with second hands that revolve around smoothly. Meaning, there should be no hesitation that is obvious in human’s eyes. Through the use of a microscope, you will see that there are about eight distinct ‘ticks’ per second. On fraud version, the second hand may hesitate to move continuously probably because of the simplicity of the inner mechanism. But again, this is not a good basis given that false high-end Rolex watches may now be replicated with second hands with continuous movements.

Hopefully these tips will help you properly identify a fake Rolex watch. Having a jeweler verify is recommended — but these will help you not be caught with the usual false replicas.
