Funny enough my late Grand mother loved wearing them and never complained that they hurt. Much depends on how well the earring finding is sized to your ear. Generally the older "screw on" type finding is more comfortable or ones with a larger surface area. I have found earrings that don't even feel like they are there. But yes, you need to find ones that work for you. Some are comfortable – and some are definitely not!
